GPs prescribing Mounjaro

Posted on:

You might hear in the news soon that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP from June.

Whilst this is true, the criteria to qualify will be very strict.

From the 17,000 patients registered with Pound Hill Medical Group, we think only around 10 will qualify. Some of these people will already be prescribed Mounjaro for their diabetes.

To avoid disappointment and wasted appointments, please check your eligibility below before booking an appointment to discuss Mounjaro:

Checklist

  • Your BMI must be above 40. You can check your BMI here if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.
  • As well as a BMI over 40, you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five health conditions:
    – Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
    – Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
    – Type 2 diabetes
    – Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
    – Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)

If you don’t meet all of these criteria, your GP will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss under the current guidelines.

Please don’t book an appointment about Mounjaro if you do not meet the criteria.

There are many other weight loss services available and we recommend visiting the Crawley Wellbeing website for further information. They run a free Weight Off Workshop for people with a BMI between 25 and 40. They can also give you 12 months’ free access to the Gro Health app for people with a BMI of 25+.

Many thanks,

Pound Hill Medical Group
